The Intersection of Community and Creativity
Community and creativity saved my life.
That might sound dramatic, but it’s the truth. There was a time when I felt completely lost—stuck in a cycle of trying to fit into spaces that didn’t see me, didn’t value me, didn’t understand me. I questioned everything: Was I enough? Was I doing the right thing? Was I even on the right path?
Then something shifted. I started to create—not just art, but spaces, conversations, and connections. And through that act of creating, I found my people.
When I paint, it’s not just about what ends up on the canvas. It’s about the act of expressing something raw and real. Art has been my way of saying what words can’t. It’s been my way of processing the chaos in my mind and the weight of the world around me.
But creativity is more than personal therapy—it’s a bridge. Every piece of art, every idea, every project is a way of reaching out, saying, Do you feel this too? And when someone sees it and says, Yes, I do, a connection forms.
That’s the magic of creativity: it’s deeply personal, yet it has the power to connect us in ways we didn’t know were possible.
We’re living in a time where we’re more “connected” than ever, but somehow, we’re lonelier than we’ve ever been. Social media gives us glimpses into each other’s lives, but they’re curated, filtered, and often devoid of the messy, human truths we all carry.
I’ve felt that loneliness too—the kind where you’re surrounded by people but feel completely invisible. It’s suffocating. And it’s part of why I believe so deeply in the power of community.
Real community isn’t about likes or comments. It’s about shared moments, hard conversations, and the vulnerability of being seen as your whole self.
This is why I believe the way we connect—online and offline—needs a reimagining.
Some of the most meaningful connections I’ve ever made have come from creative collaborations. When we come together to create—whether it’s art, fashion, events, or even ideas—we’re doing something profound.
We’re saying, Let’s take what’s inside us and turn it into something tangible. Let’s build something together.
It’s not always easy. Creativity can be messy, frustrating, and vulnerable. But it’s in that messiness that the magic happens. It’s where walls come down, egos step aside, and something real emerges.
I’ve seen this magic at Fashion Week Minnesota, in my studio, and at countless events where people who might never have crossed paths suddenly find themselves laughing, brainstorming, or tearing up together.
I’ve spent years building spaces and moments that bring people together, and one thing has become increasingly clear: We’re craving something deeper.
We need more than surface-level interactions. We need spaces—both digital and physical—that encourage authenticity, collaboration, and creativity. Spaces where people can come as they are, share their ideas, and find the courage to dream bigger than they ever thought possible.
This isn’t just about art or events. It’s about rethinking how we connect with one another, how we collaborate, and how we create together.
Our world is heavy right now. The mental health crisis is real, the climate emergency is urgent, and the divide between us feels wider than ever. Creativity and community won’t solve all of that—but they’re a start.
When we come together to create, we remind ourselves of what’s possible. We remind ourselves that we’re not alone. And we remind ourselves that even in the face of fear, doubt, and chaos, we can build something beautiful.
If you’re feeling stuck, alone, or unsure of your place in the world, I have one piece of advice: create something. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t even have to be good. Just start.
And then, share it. Invite someone else into the process. Ask them to add their voice, their ideas, their heart.
Creativity isn’t just a way to express yourself—it’s a way to find your people.
I don’t have all the answers. I’m still learning what it means to build community and create in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. But one thing I know for sure: the way we connect, collaborate, and build together matters more than ever.
There’s a lot I’ve been dreaming about lately—a way to bring people together that feels real, intentional, and empowering. I can’t share too much yet, but I hope it’s something that inspires others to step into their own creativity and connection.
Let’s meet at the intersection of community and creativity.
